Rehydrating Meat?
i tried to use jerky in stews but the meat always stayed there a way to do this?

Also how to make shredded jerky?
Please explain a bit more.

Did you just throw the jerky into the cook-pot and let it cook with your vegetables, or did you soak the jerky for a period of time before adding it to the stew pot.

Shredded jerky? I just pull it apart like I am shredding that what you are asking?

Some mornings it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps!

Rehydrating Jerky, crumble or pound it nearly to powder and flakes.

Takes little time then to cook into nearly anything, you are adding it to.

Yes, I thought you had to re-hydrate the jerky by shredding/ powdering it & soaking it in water... here are just a few good links from previous conversations on the topic of re-hydrating beef. This forum is a treasure trove of dehydrating & trail cooking information. <img src='<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I will try this...
Jerky is not dried ground beef, but it can substitute. I've cut it into as small pieces as I can, and cook it with rice. Jerky gives rice an added bit of flavor!

If using jerky in soup, give it time to re hydrate and cook slow. Your results will not be as good as dried ground beef, but plenty good enough!
