Ruger O/u
#1
I have a chance to buy a used Ruger Red Label O/U 12 gauge for around $500.00.It is well used but also well taken care of .Breech is tight ect. What do think of it as alround forging gun and maybe partime rifle with inserts? I really respect your opinions. Thanks Steve

The Ruger RL o/u I had was a great gun, I just couldn't hit anything with it, it had the english straight stock, no pistol grip. It's not much, but the only excuse I could come up with.

For $500 that's a great deal, I'd grab it while you can.

Nice thing about the breakopen action is you can use the longer rifle and pistol cartridge inserts for better accuracy.
Think direction first, then velocity.

Since you asked.. <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />

IMHO, for what you want, it would not be my choice, considering the dollars involved. For about half, you can find a nice O/U Rifle/Shotgun, (such as a Savage 24).

That is just my 2¢ worth... <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

I don't think you will find any Savage 24s for $250, nor any other combos for that matter.

The Ruger has the fault of many Rugers, it is bulky compared to its peers.

I have shot a ruger o/u for a long time and liked it. The price is ecellent. I also agree on "forgetting" the insert, just have some slugs and # 6 shot for "survival"....

Thanks for the advice. <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.By the way I've looked for a Savage 24 in 20 gauge but I can't find one.
