2 Pots For The B.o.b.
#1
Been doing some foraging practice lately on little hikes and walks with the dogs... have tried some nice new stuff like Indian Cucumber! YUM!!

So my thought were, that I used to carry just one pot. Varied for my EDC hiking bags. But usually a canteen cup, coffee can etc... but usually only one....

But after more introspection and actually trying more things, researching more... I now carry at least 2 cooking pots or containers. Main reason for this is that so many wild edibles out there require boiling in 2 or more changes of water... most cases it is either faster, or necessary to use already boiling water for the changes... impossible to do w/ only one pot...

Anyway, just my 2 cents.....

Anyone else do this?

Do these thoughts change anyone else's kit?

I carry multiple pots that nest for several different applications. Much like the perfect knife, we are always in search of the perfect cook kit. Simple answer, the one's you have with you are perfect at that time.
...keep your knife sharp, trust your instincts, and howl at the moon often.

...embrace the chaos of the forest that is the mind.

...it is only during times of crisis, under increasing levels of stress and pain, that we strip away the veils that separate us from deeper levels of existence and self knowledge.

Hi Edz!

In my vest (side pockets) I carry guyot 38oz waterbottles inside a coffee can. That makes 2 pots to cook with and I'm happy with that.

Alternatively, I might wear webbing (LCE) and will then have 2 steel canteen cups set on coals for boiling water in + 1 coffee can.

Those work pretty well for me when I'm roughing it...Tammylove likes to use those stainless steel nesting pot sets and they're pretty nice too!

HTH!

Two is one and one is none.

I love the canteen cup and carry two on my ta50.

When one is gourmet as I am, and also posses fine culinary skills one pot is totally inadequate to produce meals of such delicious content, that the birds and the beasts of the forest mob my camp to devour my delectable feasts.

Therefore I have two mess tins, a hobo coffee can, and also use beer cans as extra cooking vessels.

When I figured out that the nesting 16oz SS mug would fit over the top of my 38oz guyot, as well as the bottom, I got a second one. Now I have two 1 pint cooking pots with me. I also have the ends from a can of pumpkin that make nice lids to the mugs. all fits neatly in the maxpedition 10x4

I use a 40 oz Kleen Kanteen and an Optimus Solo cook pot with lid/frypan.

I can boil in both, and it works out well for me. Nice and light.

They work/fit best upsidedown. They are slightly larger than the mug. upside down, one of the ridges centers it nicely on the mug. Don't know what brand/size the can is. still have it, so I can check.

I find lids to be very important...

Kurt, here is the can that I got the ends from. I use one of those side cutting can openers that give you a nice clean edge.

I have used them, they are exceptionally conductive of heat, and tend to scorch things you try to fry in them. Kick butt for boiling, but not enough to justify the price over anodized aluminum for me.

I just could not bring myself to pay the massive price for them.

Your post makes me feel better about that Dravine.
