How Bad Was New Orleans And Still Is?
#16
Oops, not a sheriff, but Aaron Broussard, president of Jefferson Parish, La. was the one on tv with the "comin' to get you, momma" story.

I was not in New Orleans myself, but from the people we know who lived in and around the greater New Orleans metro area, we have received mixed reports, but the majority I know who experienced this tragedy first hand or "near-hand" have expressed more cover-up of the facts by the news media than an exaggeration of the facts by them.

Probably the people who were deployed there would have differing stories, based upon their specific exposure and locations.

Some of those who remained, had literally no choice, while others remained simply because they wanted to, and unfortunately the majority of those who did remain were pretty much regarded as the worst of the worst.

From the direct reports of friends and associates, I have no doubt the rapes and murders did not occour. Where ever the New Orleans criminal element and gang members were relocated crimes increased. In the Shreveport area on of the largest shelters was just a few few blocks from one of the areas hospitals and armed guards had to be posted at the hospital pharmacy and escort the nurses to their vehicles. Crime also increased all over the Shreveport Bossier Metro area, and that is not hearsay, that is noso. Again the news reports did not cover much of the new crime, but same new law were placed on the books because of Sheriff Steve Prator of Caddo Parish and his effors especially with reegard to sex offenders. Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle of DeSoto Parish was also quoted as telling the NO Criminal element it was time to leave His Parish!

Much we will never know I am sure.

The American Rifleman had a report from the (I believe) Director of the D-Day Museum in NO and his experiences.

And the confiscation of legal firearms not only happened, but the Democrats were so embarrassed by the blatant violation of the Constitution, that such confiscation is now a federal crime.

One of my colleagues, refers to NO as the "Cess Pool of Louisiana!" That just about sums it up.

Hey all,

I am in the middle of "the Great New Orleans Gun Grab" by Gordon Hutchinson and Todd Mason. It is a collection of stories recorded during a town meeting held by the NRA and ILA. It is very aggravating to hear stories of police from different cities threatening to break down doors and grab residents by their hair to bring them to safety. The book really praises the 82nd Airborne troops. But unfortunately they were pulled back at night and the remaining citizens were left to defend themselves (after being disarmed in some cases.)

I didn't pay much attention to NO when the hurricane hit and was only interested when I heard rumors of gun confiscation. According to this book, it wasn't very pleasant.
