Oregano Spirits
#1
Hello good people

I wanted to pass along my experience of treating a cold with oregano spirits. I had heard about treating colds with oil of oregano before, but never spirits. It appears to have worked well, 36 hours later and the cold is just about over. Occasional cough is all that's left. I felt it coming on Tuesday afternoon, and put one drop as far back in my throat as possible. Did this every 12 hours until Thursday morning. And it is extremely bitter. Wednesday was pretty miserable, I slept a lot. But I am impressed that the cold is over that quick. From what I have heard, you have got to get it right at the beginning, too late and it won't work.

When you say oregano spirits I will assume you mean a tincture of oregano.

Yes it is a tincture. Label on the bottle oregano spirits, and it is 65% grain alcohol.

Bill,

I find the oregano spirits you speak of very interesting. Have you seen the line of products at supplement stores and such called Oreganol or Oregamax? The Archer and I have been using it for about 15 years after discovering its uses and effectiveness for us in fighting colds, flus, sore throats, sinus problems, etc. I wonder just how different it is from the oregano spirits you find helpful. The Oreganol or Oregamax has oil of oregano in it and also olive leaf.

Short story of how we first discovered it...I have shared this in a post before on here, but it was quite a while back and I was unable to find it so here goes. About 15 years ago Curtis (thearcher) was sick with a BAD cold...one that just wouldn't go away for about 6 weeks...one day an older guy we knew (has since passed on) came in to the store where I was working and asked how Curtis was feeling. I told him he just couldn't shake that cold. He told me when I got off work that day to go to the supplement store and buy a bottle of this stuff...and take it to him at work and have him put 2 or 3 drops under his tongue and let it make his mouth water and mix all over his mouth swishing it around as it made saliva...then swallow it slowly to coat his throat good. He said do that 2 or 3 times a day til he felt better. So, I did go get it when I got off work at 4...took it to him at work and gave him a dose of 3 drops...he swished it around, slowly swallowed it and commented "WOW! That stuff ain't for the young!!! It has a strong oregano flavor like ya swallowed a whole oregano plant!" I went home. He got off work at 7...so about 2 plus hours after I gave it to him...He got home and told me he hoped he wasn't imagining it, but after being sick for 6 weeks or so, he thought he could tell he felt just a little bit better already. So, he took it again before bed, and 2 or 3 times the next day...by day 3 after being sick for so long he was about completely better. We were impressed.....but the biggest thing we were impressed with came a few weeks later. I chronically all my life had tonsillitis or bad bronchitis 2 to 3 times every year without fail...sore throats so bad I couldn't swallow at all, but rather...put a towel on my pillow at night because saliva couldn't be swallowed my throat would get so sore and swollen. I felt a sore throat coming on one night late and it woke me up. I got up and found the Oreganol and dropped 3 drips under my tongue and swished it around and swallowed it slowly across my throat.....and went back to bed. When I woke in the morning about 7:30, the first thing I noticed was my throat not only didn't get real sore, but it was not sore at all. Since then, every time we feel a cold, sore throat, etc coming on, we use this stuff, and it has been over 15 years since I had a sore throat get bad enough to go to the doctor for antibiotics or any conventional medicine. Nothing is a cure all, but this works the best of anything we have tried so far...a cold or sore throat if we do get sick is mild with minimal symptoms, and doesn't last long at all or get bad.

It seems like an expensive product when a small 1/2 ounce bottle will cost anywhere between 20 and 30 dollars depending on where you get it, but considering that little bottle lasts the 2 of us at least a year sometimes more...with no doctor visits, no fees, no side effects, no chemicals, etc...suddenly it seems not so expensive at all.

Here is a picture of the bottle if anyone is interested. It also comes in pill form, nasal spray, and I believe some others now, but we have only used this dropper oil form.

If you try this product, I would love to hear about your experiences with it!

Friday I could tell I was comming down with something, but it hadn't really set in. Saturday morning it set in for real, but in a milder fashion. My throat was a little sore and my energy was gone. My nose didn't run too bad, but wasn't normal either. My girlfriend said I had a fever.

Saturday morn I read this thread and imediately bought a small bottle of Oreganol for $13. I took my first of 3 daily doses. By 1:00am Sunday morn I was feeling much better! A lot of my energy had returned but not 100%. No hint of a fever or sore throat! I should be more than ready for work Sunday night. Thanks all!

FANTASTIC to hear you gave it a try! So many people I tell about how it works for us don't tend to believe me or something because I watch them suffer with colds and such for a week or 2 at a time and just won't try it...maybe they are afraid of it might taste icky who knows...It is a strong flavor, but medicine isn't supposed to taste good, and I'll take the taste of the Oreganol ANY day over Nyquil! That stuff could gag a horse!

Glad you are feeling better!

Well said! It is NOT a cure all, but we find it definitely helps us with symptoms. Glad to hear it helped you!

Hmmm... may not have anything to do with the oregano... 65% (or 130 proof) grain alcohol - you won't care if you have a cold... <img src='http://hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />/>/> Than again - aruvedic herbal medicines have been around for 4,000 year or so... 'western - if it ain't in a pill, it ain't medicine'... is a bit short sighted <img src='http://hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistling:' />/>.

All the VERY MERRY BEST! <img src='http://hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
