What Strange Things Have You Found In The Woods?
#1
I've found the remains of old wooden pipes. The area was a logging town back in the early 1900s. The trees had since grown back. Of course there are always the old burned out cars, piles of clothes, old machinery, animal bones, and a square nail at an old Pony Express station.

So, what odd things have you come across out in the boonies? *bonus points for pictures*
Truly lazy people do things right the first time.

I was out in the woods with Snarlslayer when we came across a big metal plane engine tube. The thing was pretty big. It was down in a ravine all overgrown. The same day we also found one of those gps game pieces. The ones were people hide stuff in the woods then post the gps info on the net and people go try and find it. In high school we found a brief case. We were hopping it was full of money. Nope ... ended up some cross-dressers old stuff. With wigs and some toys and other stuff we did not touch. Pretty nasty.

Here in the Pot growing capital of North America, i have encountered:

- illegal dumping of grow ops waste (soil, pots, stalks, garbage bags)

- patrolled grow ops in the woods (very scary to find, i'm glad i can egress silently)

- abandoned and current meth labs in old campers in the middle of nowhere

- stolen, burnt out, vandalized vehicles

- a pair of lacy pink panties in the middle of no where, along a trail.

- condom wrappers beside above mentioned panties, and beer cans

- garbage

- more garbage

- even more garbage

I think the funniest find though was during a dayhike thru the Baden Powell trail in BC. I was walking along silently, when i heard grunting and moaning. Perked my ears up, thinking it was a bear and then i spotted them. Two hikers just a going at it <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Blush' /> , She was bent over the log, bits a heaving, the log shaking, he was starkers except for his boots <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> and they were very into it. The cry she let out at the end caused the crows to flutter out of the trees..... <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I just strode on by them (trail was right there) and said "hi, how ya doing" and kept on walking. The giggles were going for about ten minutes solid as i passed ...... <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

What no pic's!? <img src='http://www.hoodswoods.net/IVB/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

I have came across the normal trash, panties, condoms, ect. but many years ago while spring turkey hunting I found a closed dog collar chained to a tree. It was there for a long time and after looking around I found some bones scattered around near by. The chain was wrapped around the tree pretty good so I figured it was intentional. I know I have pic's somewhere, I'll see if I can find them.

Hahaha! I think I passed the same people at the hotsprings near Bakersfield once. Well, bless their souls, at least they're not robbing a liquorstore!

I may have told this story. If I did, just pass me on by.

When I was pregnant with my 3d child, we lived in Georgia in the woods. My husband worked and I stayed home with the kids and kept house. I had a nice garden and had been pestering him to build me a chicken coop because my flock was growing and they were eating up my garden. I nagged him til one day he told me he was just too tired when he got home and that if I wanted a chicken coop, I'd have to build it myself!

Well.. ok... so I went walking out in the woods one day and found an old swingset someone had dumped. The lightbult lit up! I went home, got some tools, went back, took it all apart, and dragged it home where, using the four poles, I erected a really nice coop. I bought chicken wire and enclosed it, waited til dusk to catch the critters, and installed them in their new home.

Next day... a big storm hit. We were sitting at the kitchen table having morning coffee when there was this big KA-BOOM! I looked out the window and saw a big cloud of steam coming up and those chickens scattered all over the yard, feathers all frizzled up, and thought, "What the...?" Then I saw a BIG black burnt spot on the ground around one of the corner chickencoop poles....

Lightning had struck that metal pole :::duhhhh:::: and almost fried all my chickens!

My husband spewed coffee all over the kitchen, laughing! We're divorced now, but friendly, and he still gets a lot of joy relating that story! roflol!

When the storm passed, he helped me take down the metal poles and put up some wooden ones.

a group of middle eastern people sitting on the porches of their trailers in white gowns holding black guns. Older gentlemen too.

No exaggeration they left the area a few days after 9/11 happened, just up and left their Ryder business and disappeared.

If anyone is like me and used to use Sony Image Station for uploading pictures you might want to go there and move them because ImageStation is closing Feb 1st 08 and everthing will be gone.

While I have come across some strange things in the woods, the best find was actually at the James River in Newport News,VA while I was fishing.

It was dusk... about 7:30 PM in the fall IIRC.... The wind was blowing pretty good out on the river so even with 2 or 3 oz leads our lines were drifting. All of the sudden I got "the big hit"! Since I knew the "Blue Run" was well past, I thought that sharks had migrated up into the river it was so strong a tug. I fought the current for about 5 minutes and finally landed my prey.

What I saw as I pulled the line up over the dock totally left me speechless. The line was nearly bent over double, but on the end of the jig was a BRAND NEW Zebco fishing rod and reel, STILL IN THE ORIGINAL WRAPPING! There was extra line, lures galore, hooks, bobbers, sinkers.... The whole shebang! It was proably the best catch of my life... ROTFLOL!

- Ben

PS - My best find in the woods would probably have to be a very nice looking bicycle. Since I went to the same place very regularly after a few weeks I figured it was abandoned and brought it home for my children.

You can live for 3 Minutes without Air...

For 3 Hours without Shelter...

For 3 Days without Water...

For 3 Weeks without Food...

But you can't live at all without Faith!
