Ancient Viking Sunstone
#1
Hey Hoodlums,

I am interested in acquiring a Viking sundial and was curious if anyone here knew how to obtain one?  I can't remember if it was Ron who taught that the Viking sailors could use them even in cloudy weather to orient themselves.  I'd be curious to try it out.  Thanks,

Mako

I don't know, there's not that many Vikings around Montana these days. Years ago there were a few around Missoula, you would see them drinking at Eddies club. They would get in fights with the bikers.

I believe the sun stone was a piece of polished quartz which, when held up to a cloudy sky was slightly brighter where the sun hit the cloud or fog
I imagine the same effect could be produced with a piece of blasted glass to make it slightly opaque.

Hopefully the S won't HTF and I pray every day that it won't. It would not be fun.

I would opine that were Freya to grace his grizzled presence, he would bore her to death with an endless discussion of BOB's.....

Just sayin.....
