What Caused you to become a Survivalist?
#16
Well for me being a survivalist is a useful skill.
It is like a left hook - another good skill to have.
If a person can apply a left hook right, a person will fear no man.
In my case after my left hooks, they usually hit me back.  Tongue
I was once hiking through the night in Kansas. It was very cold, dark, and of course I was the only one out.
I had the world to myself.
And being able to survive I could sleep mostly anywhere, make a campfire, and cook up a meal - I was at home.
I lacking nothing and was free, of the hassles of civilization.
That was why I became am a practiced survivalist.

Martin Crane

"As God once said - and I think rightly . . ."
Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery

“Steady Monty. you cant speak to me like that. I'm you boss."

I grew up rural and in my meanderings I always had an old surplus British radio pack filled with necessary items, survival kits were not invented back then. A woodsman could always get by with what came to hand.
In the military I always carried a knife of some sort and fire makings.
I was a scout leader both in and out of the military as time permitted but got tired of the liberal invasion which conflicted with Baden Powell's idea to ready boys for war when the scouts were formed in the early 1900's.
When I started hunting really remote areas I started to search for quality information.
I came to the Hoods via the military book club. They had a two tape VHS sampler for sale by Ron and I ordered it.
I got on line to see what else was available and wound up going to the Anza Borega gathering way back when and met Dave Dennis, Bill Hay Luke Swenson, and several others ... and of course Ron and Karen, Jesse was a toddler.
It turns out Ron and I did similar jobs in the military and we got on great.
I think Dave Dennis recommended that I become a moderator and the game still goes on.
I have visited several other forums, but this is home right here Heart Smile
Hopefully the S won't HTF and I pray every day that it won't. It would not be fun.

My Mom was a Child of the Depression - so Prepping and survival were ingrained in me at an early age.

My Grandfather was a farmer and taught all us Grandkids how to shoot - so we could kill the rats in the Hen House for practice.

That's where I started, but I have learned more and more every year. Someday, I MIGHT even know SUMPIN'!!
K-Gal's Favorite Sayings:

I LOVE cooking with wine... sometimes I even put it IN the food!!!

If something seems too good to be true, it's best to shoot it.... just in case.

I started reading about it, and realized I had been a survivalist my whole life and didn't know it.
He who hesitates is lost.

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way.

You can lead a fool to talk, but you can't make him think.

Sometimes I wake up grumpy, and sometimes I let her sleep.

There are damm few problems that can't be fixed, with a long handled shovel and a thirty ought six.
